He further specialized with a fellowship in Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Diabetes at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, MD.

Professor Chrousos has served as Chief of the Pediatric and Reproductive Endocrinology Branch at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), NIH. He was later the Chairman of the First Department of Pediatrics at NKUA, Athens, until 2018.
